Potentiometer

A10K ... what does that mean ?

10,000 Ohms, maybe analog taper? Easy enough to confirm with your trusty DMM (Digital MultiMeter). Pots come linear taper (resistance is linear with respect to the wiper position) or analog taper (resistance changes exponentially with respect to wiper position). Anlog taper is used for audio volume control for instance.

Potentiometers are often marked as A or B types. The logarithmic taper A-type is used for audio volume controls etc which guess is why I've usually heard it called Audio taper. B-type is linear taper.

There is no worldwide standard for A and B markings on pots, alas, you have to check with a multimeter, just set mid-travel and measure the resistance from wiper to each end of the track - roughly equal for linear.
