RC snubber question (24V 9.2A DC)

Hi,

Have to switch 24V 9.2A DC with a relay (G2R-1A)

Snubber values are 8.46F and 7.4 ohms

That does not look right ... What to do?

Thanks
B

Is the load inductive, like a motor, solenoid, etc?

Can't you just use a flyback diode?
Snubber circuits are for AC.

It’s a relatively large amp

I have a diode on a solenoid side?

If you should use a diode that can carry 10A. If you are PWMing the motor the diode should be fast enough to not draw current right after switching. The specification here is the Trr or (reverse recovery time). This is the time the diode will conduct in the reverse direction after carrying current in the forward direction.

What diode, what solenoid.
Does it have anything to do with switching the power to an amplifier.

Omronn G2R-1A, 1N4007 ... that part is fine, more worried about the relay contacts

True. 24volt/10A DC is about max for that relay. Not good for very frequent use.
Maybe you should use a FET, or not.

The 1N4007 is a slow high voltage 1Amp diode.
The 1N4004 would be better for 24volt, but still slow and 1Amp.
The 1N5004 could be better.

For PWM, you need a fast recovery or Schottky diode.
Plenty ~50volt/10A diodes to choose from.
But you were asking for a relay, so that excludes PWM.

Or maybe you're switching power to an amplifier, and don't need a flyback diode at all.
If we only knew what you were switching...

Make R = 50 and C= 10uF

yes... it does ...

it works just fine for couple of years now with 1N4007 on a solenoid size and nothing on a contact side ...
there are no visible degradation on a contacts ... kind of doing small upgrades now

I used relay because I like the "click" when I turn it on

All set to go now?

as soon as stores open again ...
