Self-balancing bike - Screws aren't long enough?

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with the following assembly step:

No matter what I do, I can't get the tiny screws to reach the motor, meaning that the screws never get tightened and they just fall off (they're simply too short). I tried using the longer screws which kind of works, but this prevents the motor from being tightly held against the black piece. Am I doing something wrong?

Use longer screws and get some revet

Can you post a link to the kit on the Arduino site, I can't find it.

EDIT: Wrong motor, ignore

I found that but only see a video which are terrible for teaching. I did a couple screen grabs and here is what it shows.
Small screws

Is that a parts explosion? If so, then long screws that go through 3 (THREE) flat parts and then into the motor. Does that help.

They call for 4mm M3 screws, maybe you are using M2 so the screws don;t grab?

Two suggestions and a solution:

  1. Verify the plate you are using is correctly oriented. The screw holes may have a recess for the heads to sit in so they do not protrude.

  2. You could "counter sink" the screw holes with a scraping tool (a dull knife rotated many times).

S. I think Post #4 has what you want... use the longer screws with flat washers if supplied.

I used long screws with flat washers, thank you and @xfpd for the recommendations!

Just for info.

Screws cover a multitude of items.

Most domestic and commercial screws made and installed in recent equipment, are metric threads. Some are very small, M1, where M is Metric, 1 is the diameter in millimetres.

The ones in your image are pan head, recessed for either a Phillips or Pozidriver screwdriver. The Chinese tend to use Phillips.

Pan and Cheesehead screws are measured on the threaded length, Countersunk on the total length.

Larger sizes, M8 upwards come in different pitches where pitch is the distance between the thread crests. These are referred to as Coarse and Fine threads.

You have to be careful in your example. Yes, too short, won't hold. Too long and you might hit something critical.

If you are into screws, a vernier calliper and thread gauge are useful.

Money saving tip. Harvest screws from items and equipment due to be chucked out.
