I’m looking to buy a sms interface , but don’t want to get caught out buying something on a frequency or type that will soon be obsolete in the UK ( 2G ,3G) .
Any recommendations ?
Any help from this Google on "SMS 4G circuit"?
sms 4g circuit board - Sök (bing.com)
I’ve used literally hundreds of SIMCOM modems with Arduinos.
SIM 5320x for 2G and 3G, then upping to the SIM 7600x for adding 4G.
There are tiny command differences moving to the 7600, but your real challenge, is choosing the variant for your local carriers and regulations.
The only thing I’d add to the application notes, is to add hardware power control to the modem - in case it gets into an unknown state while operating.
Generally 99.9% consistent and reliable.
Also, keep an eye on the internal structure of text messages from different carriers, i’ve found they vary a bit with respect to line ends, which can affect your parser.
Any reasonable prices?
Last time I checked a 4G SIM module cost more than a complete low-end smartphone... which has not only a 4G SIM module but everything else needed to turn it into a phone!
Because I was addressing g a specific problem, I looked around and chose a module that met my criteria.
Ordering in batches of ten at a time, Tim at TinySine gave me exactly what I needed - slight customisation of the product which piggybacked onto my custom project board.
I think the price was fine, certainly not a problem to my customers as part of an integrated product.
