Hi
I just got my raspberry 3 and tried to setup the system so I can use it with my arduino uno.
I downloaded the arduino-1.6.8-linux32.tar.xz file, unzip it and ran the install.sh, just like the instructions in the website says.
After that, an icon appeared in the desktop. I tried to execute it, but nothing happens. The mouse turns into the "executing" icon but after a couple of seconds it goes back to normal and the IDE doesn't start.
I tried to install it through the apt-get but the version I get is the Arduino IDE 2:1.0.5, which seems pretty old.
Is there reason you insist doing development work on a Raspberry Pi versus a computer running Linux?
All I can say is that it works with Linux Mint and Ubuntu. So it's your hardware which you insist on using for which it wasn't intended.

Because I have no computer running linux, I don't want to create a dual system in my working laptop and having a raspberry pi, which theorically should have enough power to move a small IDE like this one seemed to be a good approach.
Insist is a strange word you use, when I just asked if there is a way to install the last version on raspbian. So maybe it is not about the hardware but the OS.
The raspberry 3 is a "fully" functional mini-computer in terms of specs.
