My xp fails to see my nano 's (two of) when I connect them to various usb ports on my xp computer (they work on my windows 7 computer).
I found this thread here pointing out that the usb 2.0 driver for the nano is located at the USB serial page and that it is an .inf file. I have loaded it into my computer but the computer fails to see it? I am obviously loading it into the wrong place and missing something.
Where am I supposed to put the .inf file and how does the computer see the driver?
update.
I have found the driver in , of all places, drivers directory. I have renamed it oldusb2.0 driver and loaded the new one I found, the computer still fails to find it and instead of the two ping sounds you get when you plug a unit in I get three lower frequency sounds as if the computer has seen the nano but fails to recognise it. I seem to remember this computer saw nano's a while ago but not now, anyone any idea what might be wrong? The unit still powers up and runs a program in it but I can't program it.
What kind of nanos are they? Official, or clones? Are they known working (ie, they work on other computers)?
Check the part number on the USB-serial interface (it'll probably be FTDI-something, or a CH340G, which was very common in clones). You need the correct driver for that part (there's nothing magic about the nano - it's just a pro mini + a serial adapter on the same PCB)

So basically a Duemilanove (when FT232 is used), but with A6/A7 (analog input only) brought out.
Try here for FT232

Links at bottom of the page to the driver types you wish to use (VCP or D2XX).
For CH430G (clone), browse the supplier website.
Ch340 drivers are here.
DrAzzy, see my first post :-

Thanks Chillitronix I found your link, loaded and ran it and both my nano's are now recognised.
Thanks Guys, your help was invaluable as usual.
I have XP sp3. My Nano 3.0 will not communicate since upgrading my IDE to 1.6.3. Tried everything in the troubleshooting section.
The link above is for a Chinese site and I can't figure out what download I need. Is there an English site?
I tried the driver from VCP Drivers - FTDI and it worked. ;D
