Stand alone satellite recovers DTVs and RS232 interfacing.

hello everybody, first excuse my English and vague question.
what I need to ask, is there any way to know the channel (BBC for example) being watched by interfacing a microcontroller with a DTV stand alone satellite receiver via RS232...like sending some serial data to the DTV through the port RS232 and receive data that represents the name/frequency of the TV channel that the DTV is tuned at.
my project is develop a circuit to gather data about what and how much time a TV channels are watched along the day.
any guideness or something like that is very helpful.

thanks :).

You will need to look in the manual for the DTV and find out what information can be accessed via the RS-232 port.

thank you, but I've searched in internet but found no helpful information in Manuals, could you please provide some example or an article about it?

What serial command can I send to Stand alone satellite receivers (DTVs) via RS232 to get the channel's IP or name?

I belive the serial port is for firmware upgrade only..

Consult the data sheet of your DTV for the applicable commands and protocol (baudrate...).
