Starting a project with sensor module MPU-6050/GY-521

Hello all,

Fresh user on this forum  and starting out with a question regarding gyroscopes. I'm going to use the MPU-6050/GY-521 as a way to check my posture whilst sitting in front of a computer for a school project and I was wondering if anyone has some advice or pitfalls to avoid while working with this component and gyroscopes in general. Maybe this gyroscope isn't the best to use, who knows  .

My idea was to use two of them, one of the head and one on the chest. This way I won't have a straight back, but a bent neck or the other way around. The one on the chest will be directly attached with some tape and the one on the head will be incorporated into a headset.

As I'm progressing with this project, you'll probably see more of me with more technical questions  .

Thanks in advance

One pitfall is that the MPU-6050 is obsolete and has not been manufactured for several years. What you buy today is either recycled, reject, counterfeit or possibly some sort of clone.

Modern rate gyro/accelerometer (6DOF) modules purchased from a reputable supplier like Adafruit, Sparkfun, Pololu, etc. will outperform the MPU-6050 in several respects, and you get return guarantees and product support.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't know that :open_mouth: I'll take a look at the 6DOF modules you've suggested.

Thanks again
