Sudden Issue: BSODs on 4 Different Laptops Using Arduino Mega (CH341) in Classroom Today (First Time in 3 Months)

This is a slightly modified approach from the above

  1. Disconnect the board.
  2. Enable View -> Show hidden Devices.
  3. Expand the Ports section.
  4. Right click on the first CH340 entry that you find.
  5. Click Uninstall device.
  6. Repeat for all other CH340 entries that you might find.
  7. With the board still disconnected, run the downloaded CH341SER.exe.
  8. Confirm that the app can make changes.
  9. In the next screen, click Install
  10. You will see a message that the board was successfully pre-installed.
  11. Connect the board.
  12. In the Ports section in Windows Device Manager you will get a new entry.
  13. Double-click the entry and select the Driver tab.
  14. Click Update Driver
  15. Click Browse my computer for drivers
  16. Click Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  17. You will get something like the following list

  18. Double click one of the entries with a lower version number.
  19. The Driver tab will now reflect the older version.
