Touchscreen and esp8266 return only wierd symbols

Hello, i want to initialize a TFT Touchscreen panel with a esp8266. I used the following code, however as a result i only get random symbols outputed in the serial monitor. The upload itself seems to work. I also think its not because of the baud rate, since other sketches lead to correct print results in the serial monitor. Does anybody have an idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

#include <XPT2046_Touchscreen.h>
#include <SPI.h>

#define CS_PIN  3
// MOSI=11, MISO=12, SCK=13

//XPT2046_Touchscreen ts(CS_PIN);
XPT2046_Touchscreen ts(CS_PIN);  // Param 2 - NULL - No interrupts
//XPT2046_Touchscreen ts(CS_PIN, 255);  // Param 2 - 255 - No interrupts
//XPT2046_Touchscreen ts(CS_PIN, TIRQ_PIN);  // Param 2 - Touch IRQ Pin - interrupt enabled polling

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(4800);

  //deselect all SPI devices
  pinMode(11, OUTPUT);
  pinMode (3, OUTPUT);
  digitalWrite(11, HIGH);
  digitalWrite(3, HIGH);
  delay(5000);

  ts.begin();
  ts.setRotation(1);
  while (!Serial && (millis() <= 1000));
}

void loop() {
  Serial.println("Loop start");
  if (ts.touched()) {
    TS_Point p = ts.getPoint();
    Serial.print("Pressure = ");
    Serial.print(p.z);
    Serial.print(", x = ");
    Serial.print(p.x);
    Serial.print(", y = ");
    Serial.print(p.y);
    delay(30);
    Serial.println();
  }
}

Do the "other sketches" also set the serial baud rate to 4800? Or do they set it to some other value that happens to match the rate set in the monitor?

Yes, they also use 4800. I'm especially wondering because of the "Loop start", i would have expected it to be independent from the rest of the code, but I'm also not that savy with arduino

And is this an ESP8266 specific sketch? The use of bald pin numbers (i.e. not D11 and D3) seems odd at first glance. Pin 3 is usually the Rx pin on several of the 8266 boards I've just looked at.

I thought i could use it as a normal GPIO, is this problematic? I didn't wanted to use GPIO12-GPIO14, since i wasnt sure, who they interact with SPI.

Are there any other pin numbers that you would advice to use here?

Without knowing which particular ESP8266 board you're using, I couldn't even begin to guess. I'm not even aware of any ESP8266 boards that even break pin 11 (not D11) out - isn't that always reserved for SDCMD for the flash chip?

I'm using a Lolin node mcu V3 board. I don't really know about the pin, I'm just getting started with arduino.

Would it help if I construct a wiring diagram? Can I asume that the problem is on hardware side? I really appreciate any suggestion.

Trying the test sketch for the ILI9341 TFT i get exactly the same problem, did i do some mistakes wiring or defining the pins? I also tried to disconnect all touch related pins, no difference. Here is what I get as a result: @`9hp8ILI9341 Test!
The Display just stays white all the time

Maybe you could tell us something about your display. E.g. a link to where you bought it.

Thanks for your reply
This is the display:
2.4inch SPI Module ILI9341 SKU:MSP2402 – LCD wiki
And this is the setup im trying to recreate:
Connect an SPI TFT with Touchscreen to your Arduino - ILI9341 LCD with XPT2046 Touch screen - YouTube

Thank you for the link. In the schematics MSP2402-2.4-SPI.pdf we can see that it indeed has a XPT2046 touch controller.

I assume you have connected the touch SPI pins to the HW SPI pins of your ESP8286, and you have the display version with touch. Then it should work.

You could post diagnostic output from your touch test.

Would need to know your wiring to check.

Pls find my wiring here, really hope it’s understandable

I tried to change the T_Cs i assigned to pin 3/rx to pin2 but it didn’t help much either. Furthermore, since i had the same problem disconnecting all touchscreen related pins, i don’t think its the primary problem

I would need to know which board you select to compile for.

Your wiring looks like it might be a NodeMcu ESP8266.
These have more pins than can be used for external devices; the pins used by the internal flash and SRAM.
Look for pins_arduino.h of the board you compile for. There you find the pins for the external HW SPI connection, e.g. D5, D6, D7, D8.

Ok thanks for the suggestion. Yes its a nodemcu v3 8266. So i should rather use d5-d8 for dc,reset and T_CS, instead of d1,d2 and rx?

No. You need to connect SCK and SDI(MOSI) to the HW SPI pins. And avoid Sx pins and RX.

Ok, i will try. Why do I use the HW SPI Pins and not the standard ones? Can i use these then for dc, reset and T_CS?

I mean gpio 7, 11 and 8.
