Transflective 5.9 inch Full HD 1080*1920 1080p LCD screen display

Topic created by Jean-Marc Zingg

Hi Display Fans,

I just received this Transflective 5.9 inch Full HD 1080*1920 1080p LCD screen display, complete with HDMI board.

I know that this looks off-topic for the Arduino Display Forum, but I will also try to connect it to some Arduino board later. Some STM32 boards should be able to drive this display more or less directly.

The dual-row FCP connector to the display has 30 lines.

And I found a HDMI driver shield for Arduino that I may order later, maybe:

Any suggestions are welcome; that's why I started this topic. I will report my findings. Thank you.

Jean-Marc

Google found a site with this content but invalid link:

Transflective 5.9 inch Full HD 1080*1920 1080p LCD screen display with HDMI to MIPI interface driver board.

So we can assume that the display takes MIPI signals.

I did a first test with this display, connecting it as a second monitor to my notebook.
Connecting the display to the HDMI board is easy, but insecure, as there is just one picture on the web-page that allows to guess the orientation of the dual row connector and the side of the flex flat cable.

There is absolutely no documentation in addition to the web-page; I will need to ask the vendor.
One button seems to be a reset button, the purpose of the other one is unknown.

The HDMI board draws just below 0.4A through the USB power connector.

No outdoor test yet, need fix the pieces together first, but the display is well visible even under a strong LED flashlight.

I would like to see this display used in an outdoor smartphone - there don't seem to be any with transflective displays - or an outdoor GPS navi, but the brightness (backlight) is lower than most smartphones. But it would be better for outdoor use; I dislike smartphone GPS use where I have go under trees to see anything.

I hope I can motivate the vendor to provide more information.
