UK Based PCB maker

So... you have designed a PCB, about 60mm x 100mm. L shaped and mostly SMD.
You only need one, but would probably go for 3 just in case. No components, just standard 1.6mm thick, 2 layer with silk print.

Are there no viable 'hobby' PCB manufacturers in the UK?

PCB train just quoted an eyewatering £156.00 + vat. Mental. I mean, I know it's a low volume run but ... wow.

I usually use JLCPCB and it looks like that is the way again then. 5x PCBs are £1.36 with £12.87 postage.

Can't buy the stuff to etch it myself for that.

A lot of the UK PCB makers actually send their boards to China anyway .
Go back to JLCPCB , I’ve not found a cheap Uk company .

Shame.... but that is the way it seems to be.

I have taken to removing all the silkscreen details from my PCB's, as there have been reports of peoples PCB's appearing for sale after sending them to JLCPCB! LOL.

More pennies to China then.....

I do have a laser cutter and wondered if it would be possible to etch using that, but to be honest.... it's only ever going to be single sided and still a whole pile of faff.

The odd shape means the company can ONLY produce your board during the normal process. Usually they will combine many board layouts to fit their panel size.
If you change to a rectangular board for production and then cut your own "L" shape, you will be so far ahead in the game.

If you use Easyada for your PCB , you can create a parts list from JLCPCB stock and get them to make and populate your board .

I thought Elektor magazine hada low cost board supplier.

EasyEDA ?

Wrong in this case. Tried that (although then it means I have to cut the pcb to fit the enclosure)...
Rectangle version of the board was the same price in the UK

Well, that is certainly a different business model than I thought.

That is a lot for postage, i always use europacket or e-packet whatever it's called. Taxes paid upfront, never use DHL unless the taxes are paid upfront,

Well that is the cheapest option on the JLCPCB website and that is Fedex I think.
At £1.36 for the PCB's, I can't really complain!

I have used the FEDex option a few times before and the PCB's arrive usually in 8 days, and that is allowing for the extra 2 days they add as my PCB's are black not green.

Have to say, the PCBs are usually quite nice...
