Using Arduino And A Guitar To Control Leds

Is it possible to use the output of an electric guitar mixed with an arduino to control leds in time with the guitar? When I strum I want the led strip light to either light up or change color.

What does "control LEDs" mean? Certain LEDs light for certain frequency, certain amplitude?
