Want to start with Arduino as a newbie

hi guys. new to Arduino. I want to start because I'm in college and need something to do in my free time to get my mind off all the stress of classes lol. I want to do Arduino. my friends have been doing it and I have joined a little group that we meet during the weekends. we have some miscellaneous parts and some boards and a PC to code on but thats it. looking for ideas. my friends and I have made almost everything we can think of.

I assume you have an Arduino and the IDE.

(I no board yet, I recommend a "clone" Nano R3 - cheap, for practice and mistakes).

Practice examples:

Get the IDE:

WOKWI.COM for practice online

What did I miss?

@xfpd I don't think you missed anything. It was more than likely not the community (read: users) but AI that is a little too eager to flag it.

So what are your hobbies or what are you interested in?

Try all the built-in examples. Tutorials

@jonathan-carre's post #3 has now been restored and the configuration of the automated system adjusted to reduce the chances of such an occurrence in the future. I apologize for the inconvenience.

The forum's automated spam filter sometimes produces false positives, which result in those topics temporarily being hidden unjustly. This is why a team of human moderators review every action taken by the automated system.

So I think in the end these false detections are always corrected, but there is an unfortunate delay between the time of the spam detection and when a moderator reviews the action.

thank you. @sterretje I am just looking for ideas. and thank you @pert

I would but I am trying to make my own!

its more fun to do it yourself! not copy of someone. you know what I mean?

I'd suggest you start form an example that interests you, and try making changes to the way it works.

This might amuse you and you could adapt it to other uses

I kind of like the idea of making a radar. we havn't done that yet. I will try that and come back for help if I need it! thank you all so much for everything!!!

No. I do not. What is the difference between copying text from the forum and copying text from a web site?

The idea with "examples" is to show you one way to do it right. You can expand to anything you want.

Really?

when I started with Arduino I was thinking the same, what useful thing can I make with an Arduino ? something usefull, not just LED blinking after push a button. So I got the idea building a classic analog clock with face and hands from a digital RTC (real time clock). What I used was an Arduino UNO, 3 steppermotors, a DS3231 RTC module and some gearwheels, limitswitches and other parts to build the mechanics. I must say I am lucky to have a DIY Lasercutter maschine and could make a lot of mechanics from plywood sheets.
Besides the mechanics the challenge was to transform the digital time into exact hands movement on the clock. It is this much fun for me that after 5 years I am still building mechanical clocks from digital signals. My biggest one is this one, 1,1m diameter (about 3.6 feet)

that is really cool good job! I think we only have like, ONE stepper motor, but we have some other motors that I am sure would work fine for that. but I think It may be a while since our schools laser cutter needs permission from the guy who owns it and he's only their own tuesdays and thursdays.

there on. not their own lol, on my phone and it autocorrects like crazy! haha

Hi! So a couple of pretty basic and super fun projects are
A: "missile defense system" essentially two servos, a ultrasonic sensor and a Nerf gun
B: A mini traffic light you can actually get pretty advanced with this
C: A project I just made myself, a taser alarm clock! (Just make sure you use a super tame buzzer, not an actual taser  )

If you want a tutorial for the alarm clock I just made one

when I read that I thought you may be going to jail. then I looked at the parentheses and was like "ooooooohhhhh". what a sick prank for April fools day though. "hey I set your alarm to get up!" next thing you know he's getting tased! lol.

alarmclock, great idea but not with these ugly buzzers. must be with music on your choice. a DFPlayer mini MP3 makes it possible
