Wemos D1 mini 8266s have different size USB C micro ports ?

So I ordered one 8266 off the web at ebay and had no issues interfacing to it. I ordered another from a different vendor and the
one that arrived looks identical except for the Micro USB C interface port. It is larger.

Does anyone know the spec difference on these USB C micro/mini ports? I am going to need a different cable or
adapter to accomodate this newest 8266 as it is larger than first one I received. You can power it up through the pins
but programming itis going to be a challenge w/o the correct jack.

thanks....

Micro and Mini

My cables are similar to the one on the left in the picture. But the 8266 are different sizes.
The latest D1 mini port is probably 25% larger in width.

there is no such thing as "micro C". only "micro B" and "mini B" (on the picture above).
USB C has only one type of a connector

i am not really interested what cable you got. show picture of your Wemos board

Here is pic of the two 8266s piggybacked.

Is the larger one a "mini B?"

...understood... :+1:

The one on top is a C
The on the bottom is a Micro

Thank you.

It is annoying that when purchasing these little guys they never mention a specific
USB size. Now I know to ask. Time to order some new cables.

Been there!

maybe you just didn't notice.

but C is a common USB connector now. used on phones too. are you sure you don't have an A to C or a C to C cable?

I like mini-B much better than micro-B, but it's rare to find them used much, it seems.
Micro-B became proliferate because, I guess, smartphone adopted that.
Odd that you don't have several handy already.

That's what you get with cheap knock-offs from places like ebay, I'm afraid.

Providing & maintaining good documentation & specifications and continuity of supply is expensive - it's one of the costs that that vendors cut.

on the original "Wemos/Lolin D1 mini" they changed the USB connector from "B micro" to C

And it is clearly stated:

With version info.

You're right I did not notice. One reason being I was ignorant of the fact different USB types
could be applied to these little 8266s.

I checked my goody bag of stray cables collected over the years but nothing was found to help
the cause. I ordered some adapters to hopefully make things right.

I get your point about supporting the knockoff world. But to be honest this is the 1st time I have
had an issue with these ESPs ordered off FleaBay.

"on the original "Wemos/Lolin D1 mini" they changed the USB connector from "B micro" to C"

...appreciate those links.... its interesting how my USB port issue has turned into a teaching moment for me... lol

It is against human nature to admit being wrong, misinformed, or ignorant. But I am swallowing my pride on this one as I reveal after further research both vendors DID provide specific connector data in the item description:

1st purchase:
"Connector: MicroUSB"

2nd purchase:
"Interface: type-c"

So there you have it. I was not paying attention to the details obviously. LOL...

Look for little plug-in adapters.
