So I ordered one 8266 off the web at ebay and had no issues interfacing to it. I ordered another from a different vendor and the
one that arrived looks identical except for the Micro USB C interface port. It is larger.
Does anyone know the spec difference on these USB C micro/mini ports? I am going to need a different cable or
adapter to accomodate this newest 8266 as it is larger than first one I received. You can power it up through the pins
but programming itis going to be a challenge w/o the correct jack.
My cables are similar to the one on the left in the picture. But the 8266 are different sizes.
The latest D1 mini port is probably 25% larger in width.
I like mini-B much better than micro-B, but it's rare to find them used much, it seems.
Micro-B became proliferate because, I guess, smartphone adopted that.
Odd that you don't have several handy already.
You're right I did not notice. One reason being I was ignorant of the fact different USB types
could be applied to these little 8266s.
I checked my goody bag of stray cables collected over the years but nothing was found to help
the cause. I ordered some adapters to hopefully make things right.
It is against human nature to admit being wrong, misinformed, or ignorant. But I am swallowing my pride on this one as I reveal after further research both vendors DID provide specific connector data in the item description:
1st purchase:
"Connector: MicroUSB"
2nd purchase:
"Interface: type-c"
So there you have it. I was not paying attention to the details obviously. LOL...
