What software to use to design circuits / PCB

Hi,

I tried some softwares to design my projects circuits / PCB... None satisfied me a lot.

What software do you use, why ?

Thank you

If you do a search (top right hand corner) for 'circuit design' you will find that lots of opinions have already been aired on the subject.

None satisfied me a lot.

Which did you try already?

I personally use Eagle CAD..

I think it has a more steeper learning curve than others.. ut once you read through a few tips and tricks threads.. and understand that it sorta works backwards than most software we are used to (Office..etc)..

ie: usually we select somethign text/object THEN apply an effect or behavior to it (ie: selecting the text first.. then changing the color...etc).... where as in Eagle you select the 'color' first and then highlight/select the 'object/text'..etc

That was huge for me to learn/understand.. along with how Eagle was designed to be a 3 point mouse.. left click, right click,.. and scroll/click wheel. .... getting used to the menus those options display was also key to getting a solid workflow (for me)

Not to mention Eagle has lot of community support, components/packages and tutorials available.

Others I had heard peopleuse but cant comment on myself are:

KiCad
Fritzing (yuk.. unless you want to make WIRING diagrams.. that I think it excels in)
DipTrace
Altium

Lots and lots of threads on this topic on the forum. 8)

Yea... but I do not find a lot of people using the same tool... I looks like the is no "best" product...

"I do not find a free license..."

(look again) Eagle CAD is free if your boards are under a certain size limit... so there is a free version.

As far 'best' product.. of course you wont find that.. its all opinion.

Some lack in areas where other may be strong..

some may like an interface over another..

some may need/want features not available in all..

its subjective.

You have a list of the most popular, tried and trued software... give them a go, and decide for yourself.

Another option is KiCad. It's open source and had no board limit restriction. Over the last couple of years became better and better. I use it to design boards and I like it

I use Eagle, and I paid up to get the proper license. It's a great tool - it's got a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it's very powerful, and it's professional grade software.

^ ditto.

Its really the only thing I have ever used (Thanks to Crossroads for making me not be a sissy-pants, and just suck it up and try/use it!)

Even creating your own components isnt that hard to grasp once youve done it a few times.

I know another software just came out with a huge update that was all the buzz a few weeks/months ago.. (but I dont recall if it was Altium or KiCad?)

For myself.. Eagle does what I need to do.. lots of community support, most board houses accept their files/gerbers..etc.. lots of plug-ins/scripts.
