I am using a National Instruments cDaq with Windows 7 Embedded Standard (2010). The problem is that under ports in device manager, the arduino shows up as Unknown Device, and is not registered by the Arduino IDE, it seems like there's some serial communication problem in the computer but I don't know how to solve it. The computer seems to recognize that the unknown device is made by Arduino, but that's it. Every time I try to install and reinstall the driver, it says that it wasn't installed correctly. I have reinstalled Arduino IDE, I have deleted and reinstalled the Arduino Uno driver, I have installed FTDI VCP drivers, I have tried using PuTTY, and I've been looking through the system files to see if there's anything wrong (but I'm pretty hopeless). I've tried almost every fix I've seen. If anyone has any idea on what to do, I would appreciate the help.
com won't open?
Does such a message appear when the usb is connected?
like this:?

Or only does it just show as unknown in device manager?
If your Uno uses the CH340 TTL-to-USB convverter, you will have to installl the driver.
Sorry, I forgot to include this detail, but it uses an Atmel Mega 16U2.
