ATMega328P-AU Crystal Oscillator

EDIT: I just looked at the datasheet for the component CSTCE16M0V53-R0 and it does say on there that it eliminates the need for external load capacitors.

Hi All,

Looking for some advice. I am creating a project on a standalone PCB using the ATMega328P-AU controller.

I have the basic design down with connections to the various pins available. One thing I would like to know is this:

I am using this Crystal Oscillator - CSTCE16M0V53-R0 (16MHz). Does this still require the two 22pF capacitors adding to this circuit as per the pic below or can I add it to the board with the need for the capacitors?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Brett Rogers

From what I can see on the datasheet for the CSTCE16M0V53-R0 is that it is what is better known as a resonator, a bit different from a crystal.

Resonators have the caps built in - no need for any external components. They usually are not quite as accurate as a crystal but more than capable of the job.
