Can I buy an Arduino Mega without the pin sockets already soldered in?

Hi there,

I have a project that requires 10 Arduino Megas, but I need to plug them onto the face of a large breakout board - not behind.

I heard that it 'may' be possible to purchase Megas without the black pin sockets already soldered in. If I solder the pin sockets onto the reverse side, I could plug the Mega onto the top of my custom board.

But can any one tell me where I could purchase these boards - if they do in fact exist?

Thank you!

Graham

Please do not cross-post. Other thread removed.

With a bit of gentle force you can remove the plastic part of the stacking connectors.
Then it's easy to remove each individual pin.
Clean up the via with solder wick.
You need a temp controlled soldering iron and a bit of experience for this.

so not to sound like a jerk but is that a no? im working on a project with similar requirements and a pin less mega would be much easier and cleaner than desoldering and cleaning out all those holes

Yes it is a no.

Can't you use pinheaders on the main board, and plug the Mega onto them upside down.

Late to the party but hopefully this helps someone else out in the future... if not myself when I forget. I just found megas without the headers soldered on @ alexnld.com
