Discussion re: offering paid work on Arduino Forum

Continuing the discussion from Arduino IDE developer to help develop code suit student:

if an "experienced developer with over 40 years in the embedded development world designing electronic systems and programming them" comes at the same low price than alternative offers then I'm sure there will be an interest

(I read this as "student == cheap labor")

DITO, hence the sarcasm.

or it might be a willingness to give some work to students...

Anyway good opportunity for a student to make a quick buck - I've been there a long time ago

Yep, agree, everyone starts some place.

exactly my point here, I dont want an over qualified arrogant coder. there's a big gulf between a competent scrip kid and interfacing with real world client requirements. Like a fast accurate typist and the manuscript Author - and the Publisher.

Ive had a disastrous experience of being brought in to manage a development started by an IT illiterate Manager using Visual basic to make an interactive stock control system. It was coded by a team of Eastern labour and was very poorly controlled.integrated, tested and of course documented/commented. It was a nightmare to debug and maintain. The team was constantly churning with staff turnover. The product was badly bug filled and inoperable. Senior management (equally IT illiterate) thought the answer was some brute force, knocking heads together etc. Inevitably this was like pouring petrol on a fire.
I tried to convince management the project needs to be scrapped but they couldnt face the prospect of being scrapped themselves. Faced with an untenable position I moved on. I certainly learnt how NOT to commission a s/w project and to stamp on "ideas men" who spiral off out of control.

You're sure you know what you are talking about?

The rest of your posts: May I safely assume that your budget is in the 2 digit $ range?

May I suggest we leave this post where it is and let interested students send PM to @robint

little value add in digressing from the original ask, whatever the motivation, this is a category for posts focused on hiring. The discussion about this can happen in the bar category (may be some of the posts - including mine) should be moved there.

WOW, I am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time managing a project.

However, reading the language that you have used to describe your predicament I am not surprised.

Your language is bordering racist with your reference to “Eastern labour” and your attitude to "ideas men" is toxic and bullying.

Your apparent hatred of Visual Basic is alarming.
I use VB.NET in a world leading application that controls audio and animatronics in parade control systems.

All I can say is that I am glad I have never, and will never, work for you and would recommend any younger persons to seriously consider if they want to either.

your comment is offensive and has been reported as off topic for this category

I split the tangential posts to a separate topic as suggested.

This is the only sensible literate comment so far, although my OP specifically asked for interested parties to communicate by PM. For this board category comments are not invited. Offers of paid consultancy work are by their nature confidential.
If I wanted free advice I would have asked for it - but by its nature it comes with significant downsides. Development work is a pathway not a quick code fix
Hence the need to engage a paid consultancy for continuity.

Clearly not understood by intemperate comments

So did I but with a worse interpretation: cheap labor that can be abused. Professionals know when to stand up for themselves "I did what you asked. Pay me before asking for more features" whereas students and those new to freelancing will often keep doing work for months with the promise of being paid dangling in front of them. The Reddit /r/freelance was really good for advice about this before it was effectively dead.

Protip: When posting one-way announcements - "Post and Ignore" the thread.

You do not want prospects who do not follow directions (to PM). Your time AND payroll are saved if this avenue proves fruitless... however, continued interaction bubbles it to the top of Latest, giving your request more exposure.

more bad advice then
The Reddit /r/freelance was really good for advice about this before it was effectively dead.

So you assume I am someone who would abuse a student's good will then. How very insulting of you given that your gratuitous libel was not invited to my OP

Actually the advice given is sane and sound. Especally for newcommers this is worth a fortune. If you intend to take advantage of somebody than it's bad advice for sure
