We have a project for school, they gave us an option and we picked the one sensor, 3 trashbin for metal, paper, plastic. do we have a solution for this problem? please help i'm newbie
What problem? The problem seems to be you chose BEFORE you did any research?
To the best of my knowledge there does not exist a sensor that can distinguish between metal, paper and plastic.
This is only made worse when talking about domestic waste: is metallised plastic (such as crisp packing) metal or plastic? Or how about drink cartons, which can be made of paper with a aluminium layer and coating of plastic!
Metal is heavier than paper and plastic and is sometimes magnetic.
- Use a conveyor belt to move objects past a strong fan. Steel is heavy and will not blow away.
- Dump the remaining into water... plastic and aluminum float, wet paper sinks.
- Send the rest through an oven. Aluminum will not melt while plastic will become liquid.
Use the Arduino to blink an LED.
It's called "human in the loop."
