Distinguish various materials

Hi everyone!
I'm building an "intelligent" waste bin and I was thinking of a system to make Arduino distinguish paper/cardboard from plastic and aluminium.

I don't know which sensor to use, I've heard of webcams with artificial intelligence, but I would prefer something simpler (hoping it exists :sweat_smile:).
