Forum instability is back?

From about 04:00 - 05:00 UTC there were massive stability issues, similar like two weeks ago

Is there any thing how we can support to solve that?

What is going on with the forum again since yesterday evening?
Somewhere a script is stuck again.
My avatar does not come and it does not stop constantly waiting for dub2.arduino.cc.

[translate with deepl]

I haven't experienced it (yet) yesterday or today.

YES!
Someone is fiddling with it.
I can't post because the forum is in read-only mode.
Is unannounced counterproductive when I try to show an explanation example.

same here (read only) ... around GMT 21:20 ...

Read only for a while here too then a period of "The forum that you are looking for does not exist" or similar wording

That is always the biggest problem.

@pert, can changes please be communicated, it does not matter how small or big. Just a (locked) sticky at the top of the section or at the top of the forum; remove when change is complete.

It will amuse you to know our internet service is so bad, we hadn't noticed the additional minor annoyance.

In cases where I am aware of an outage or degradation and it appears to be persistent, I think it is good to communicate it. But it is unlikely such a thing would be planned in advance and it is likely I wouldn't be able to take such an action while an unplanned outage was in progress. So I think your previous suggestion of opening an issue in the dedicated tracker on GitHub is a better plan:

However, I think we need to accept that an occasional short outage or degradation is inevitable for any web service. You will experience them even using multi-billion dollar platforms. You just have to take a break and try again later.

This wasn't a matter of someone from Arduino flipping a switch to put the forum in read-only mode. Arduino does not manage the forum hosting and software updates anymore. Those services are provided by Discourse. There is a status page for the Discourse hosting service here:

You can subscribe to notifications there if you like.

The forum is on the "Discourse Enterprise Hosting" plan and the location is "EU (dub) 1".

When the forum experienced it's big outage, I went there. It stated that everything was OK while my cell phone told me that there was something wrong and "they were working on it" :frowning:

I understand that glitches can not be predicted and might be very short-lived. But @my_xy_projekt is now experiencing it for a few hours by the looks of it.

@my_xy_projekt (and others experiencing the issue), have you tried to clear the browser cache and cookies? It might solve the issue.

I have been using the forum all day, including at the moment the report posts were made and I didn't experience any outages so either they were short and I happened to miss them or else they are not universal.

In cases where only a few users report being affected and I'm not able to reproduce the problem I don't think it makes sense to create a formal outage notice.

no. If the "same" cache and cookies are working again 10 minutes later, why should deleting of them help in first instance, beside the fact that I will need some time to delete the arduino.cc related stuff and do a new login.

"turning it off and on again" - is NOT the "any purpose solver"

I just had around 30 minutes of not being able to access the forum, getting the 502 Bad Gateway responses. Did anyone else experience that?

Everything seems fine for me now for the last few minutes.

once in the last 5 minutes (GMT 5:50).

As @noiasca already wrote, it is not due to cache or cookies - eventually it will work again. But just not stable enough.

Since I lose cache and cookies when I close the browser, that can be ruled out as a reason.

Now I'm probably also an exotic  My read and response times prove that.

Current status: It still does not work.

The avatar icon is still gone.

Sometimes it works. Mostly not.

Basically dub1.discourse-cdn.com is always affected.

Could it be that some script is calling some content that is no longer there or is there somewhere else?

The Forum did get quite an upgrade a couple of days ago.
I did mention it in the moderator section when I actually noticed the visual differences.
Moderators were certainly not notified of any upcoming changes to that I can swear !

Cannot tell you all that was upgraded as I am no longer privy to that information.
Maybe @dax1 can shed some light.

There were some other "minor" glitches a while after but I put them down to "bedding in" of the upgrade.

In Canada here and yes the outage seemed quite severe at the time.
Fact is that I considered it enough to warrant pictures in Arduinos own backroom of my screen at the time.

Honestly not sure why any of the ahermm "ADMIN" didn't know or give out any heads up ?
These types of interruption have been mentioned by moderator's and I know they have asked for some form of heads up maybe by way of a "ticker" or something.
Alas they will probably never see anything for it.

several 502, 504 and "Sorry" pages

Back around 2010 I was in a vendor presentation (to architects) for Enterprise hosting on virtual servers. The presentation PowerPoint had a graphic of a basketball representing a workload being tossed between images of Solaris servers running in high-availity mode. My question (unanswered) was, "What happens when the ball hits the ground?"
