How to replace mini USB with USB C?

Hello,
I want to replace all Micro and Mini USB Ports in my home with USB-C.
My Nano has a Mini USB which should be quite easy to replace. What confuses me is, that it is connected with 5 pins. Of course, one is V+, one is Ground and two are for Data. But what is the fifth pin for? I attatch a picture of the USB C female port I thought about ordering, it only has 4 connection pins, can I even use this?

Hi @orangedays22

The fifth pin is "ID". It is usually unconnected.

The USB-C connector is much more complicated

The picture you are showing only has the base USB connections and should be fine for what you want to do.

Okay thanks, I was just confused because all the 5 pins of the mini USB are soldered to my board, but then I will just try it by just connecting only the 4 of the USB C

I use this

thanks, this is a good idea aswell

Yeah, they should all be soldered to secure the USB port. Only 4 should be actually used though.

Hi everybody, had an issues with that solution, my PC doesnt see arduino after i put connector between them (PC -> typeC -> micro -> arduino(wemos)). Tried to ping wires with multimeter signal for data+- passed. Connecting again through micro, start answer again.

Hi @Xamresor

Does your Mini USB cable that is in your photo, have two wires inside the cable? Or 4?

It looks like it only has two, so that is not a data USB cable, because the white is positive, and the black is negative.

But if that is 4 wires, then could we see a photo of all 4?
