I do a position control on a dc motor controlled by shield L298, the problem is that when I plug the 12v power supply on the shield, serial terminal or plotter are blocked, and if I start with the power supply The last two do not display anything.
So which shield, and how have you configured its logic and motor supplies? Is it supposed to power
the Arduino 5V or Vin?

for the motor Vcc suplly i am using the external 12v power supply, and for the logic supply i am using PWM from arduino
Thanks to all of you, the problem is solved i took another 31v power supply from a brother printer and everything is getting back in order
