mega 2560 isn't being seen by Windows 7

This is my first time dealing with Arduino and I'm having some troubles with getting my computer to recognize the Arduino Mega 2560.

When I connect the Arduino to my computer by USB B cable my computer does not recognize any new hardware which reading the setup documents says it should.

Trying to work the software right away I see that the select a port option in greyed out.

Reading the forums I learned that I would need to update the correct drivers first. Going into device management I did not have a Ports option right away. I had to manually add the Ports option to the list which I was able to directly download a Mega 2560 driver from the Arduino website. I have the Ardunio Mega 2560 (COM3) under ports now but it has a yellow '!' mark on it. When i try to update the driver like the instructions state by going through the Arduino folder and selecting the FTDI USB Drivers it comes back saying it's up-to-date.

I'm not sure if I'm missing a step or maybe I received a bad Arduino. I purchased it off of Amazon and there were no damages to the box. When I connect the USB to the Arduino i get the L LED blinks a couple times and the PWR LED is solid on.

Please advise...

Thank you,
Travis

Have you tried this board on another USB ports port or another computer? If your computer doesn't show new device when you plug in the board, adding a new port won't help. Arduino MEGA 2560 DOESNT USE FTDI.

I did try switching ports on the PC and I also tried running it on my Raspberry Pi 2 with no luck. I'm starting to lean towards it being a bad board.

I just tried it on a second laptop computer run Window 7 and again there is nothing under the port drop down. Nothing seems to happen when it's plugged in other than the pwr LED comes on.

It's probably a bad board. Hope you can return it for a replacement. If the board works, it's as easy as installing a USB drive. Don't get discouraged though. Bad boards happen.

Is this a genuine Arduino or a clone?

I'm sending it back and have already requested a replacement from Amazon. From what I can see it is a genuine Arduino. The link is below.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully the new one coming in Monday will work.

I'm trying to use this board in a laser engraving project of mine. Having the RP2 be the brains and then have the Arduino control the stepper motors and the laser.

Unfortunately there is currently no more genuine Arduino on the market. Anything you buy with Arduino on it is either clone or from the rogue arduino.org. I'm about to return a bunch of them today.

OP, does your MEGA come with a sticker on the board saying download the latest IDE at arduino.org? If it does, it's a rogue arduino. Better buying a board that doesn't say arduino than buying a rogue.
