Mkr wifi 1010 not recognized

My Arduino MKR WiFi 1010 is no longer recognized by my laptop. What could be the reason? The MKR board still works via Wi-Fi, but I can't connect it to my laptop to modify a code. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi @dfremaut. Please try this experiment and then report back with the results:

  1. Connect your Arduino board to your computer with the USB cable.
  2. Press and release the reset button on your Arduino board quickly twice.
  3. If it is already open, close the Tools > Port menu in Arduino IDE.
  4. Open the Tools > Port menu in Arduino IDE.

Now please reply here on the forum thread with the answers to the following questions:

  • Do you now see the LED on the board pulsing?
  • Do you see a port for the board in the Tools > Port menu?

I have a similar problem. Board was working fine until I powered it from external regulated 5 volts source via VIN pin and GND. Now it is no longer recognized via USB though still works with the external power. I tried the experiment in post #3 and there was no response.
There was a short period of time where the USB and the external voltage were both connected. Thank you for your time.

It always takes me a couple tries to get the timing right on the double press in order to get the onboard LED to pulse.
I'd give it another try or 3.

Thanks for the quick reply. OK, I tried every cadence I could think of from "as fast as I can" to a two-second delay, still no flashing and no USB pairing with Windows. BTW, other Arduino boards and many other devices are recognized just fine on this laptop. I even tried a different cable and tried it on my Linux partition with no joy. It seems to me the USB interface may have been damaged, but why?

Again many thanks to Hutkikz and anyone else who might have suggestions.
