Modular interlocking system for electrical circuits and components

As the title says, I'm designing a hypothetical modular interlocking system for electrical circuits and components.

If you know about Lego brick cases for boards, the idea is similar. However, instead of just cases, each module would securely house individual components (boards, power banks, sensors, etc.). The goal is to protect components, keep setups organized, and offer an alternative to soldering, which is often permanent and can damage components.

I’d love to hear your thoughts about this one. Do you think it could actually be useful?

No. Standardization of component pinouts and ensuring proper module interconnection mating is impossible.

So it will only ever be hypothetical, you are not actually planning to ever make this?

I already have such things: breadboards!

How do you plan on handling high frequency and noise sensitive components? It seams to me it would be much more fruitful and far less time learning how to solder. When done properly soldering normally does not do damage when assembling and when removing them. Experience and skill help a lot and you do not spend 60% of your time chasing bad connections.

For the hypothetical there is a great program called KiCad, you can build your blocks any way you want.

For boards and sensors I use standard divided parts sorting boxes in various sizes. My main power bank weighs 5 to 10 lbs and is as big or bigger than any parts sorter, besides It has to stay on the bench. I do also have wall warts and batteries in sizes from coin to the size of a pound of butter. Again, not good candidates for parts sorters in the larger sizes. Also since they are Lithium, they are stored in fireproof and explosion resistant metal boxes.

Rather than a random link, post what you have although it sounds like I would not be interested in something that is 'theoretical and imaginary'.

I won't be doing a prototype for a hypothetical project idea. I'm just looking for opinions of possible users, even if mostly negative.

It sounds like you came up with an idea, in an area where you have little or no practical knowledge, did little or no research on whether it might be feasible to implement, and hope that a post on a technical will give you most or all of the information needed to write it up.

I understand what the OP is trying to do. Most of us have had ideas in areas where we knew little or nothing, and by asking questions, doing some research, and investigating, we figured things out, not always the way we first expected. Both software and hardware design show this clearly, with mistakes and wiring errors along the way.

I am assuming this post is part of the OP's process of exploring the practicality and plausibility of the idea. I go through that same process many times a week.

As an example, I knew nothing about diabetes when I was diagnosed as insulin dependent. I spent a lot of time reading, researching, and asking what probably sounded like very basic or even foolish questions. Over time I learned what I needed to know, and I have been doing fine for over 25 years.

If I had blindly followed some of the advice I was given early on, I would not be here now.

Another member posted a question earlier about a screw adaptor for the UNO. It got 2 replies, one involved a shield on top and the other involved pieces of perfboard stuck in the existing headers and would be a bit tippy.
However, the NANO has a great product, I have a handful.

The problem with any of these devices is they increase the size. I like to use NANOs because of their mediu size footprint. For really small I use Seeed XIAOs and they have a few same footprint accessory boards.

If you want to investigate an idea, I think something involving a 3D printer might get more traction. If you come up with the STL files for containers and boxes for 'every' board with 'every' combination of add ons and sensors that would be of great help. It's an x^y problem so a lot of work, possibly years but start with one. I would not look at the UNO, it is meant to be a test mule, not a good shape for deployment. The Arduino NANO line has a bunch of boards that are one footprint and the esp32 line has a few (<6) footprints that cover 95% of all the boards out there.

When was the last time you drove a car built using written instructions only? I know brief words can describe contents of an illustrated parts breakdown... but images replace volumes of words.

The idea of images is to convey spacial information that words can not briefly describe. You "see" the result in your mind. Draw that image.

I actually thought about 3D printing, but as you said, it would involve a lot of work. However, it would make it easier to adapt to specific boards and components since the module pieces could be modified. Might discuss this further with my colleagues.
