I am working with Arduino for several years building different electronic test units for the company I work for. Last week I needed to slightly modify the code for one of my gadgets built around the Arduino Nano to meet the new test requirements. The gadget is in working condition, but when I connected it to my PC I was unable to download the new code because computer did not see it. I tried to unplug it and to plug it in again, I restarted computer, tried different USB ports - nothing. I thought that maybe the mini USB port on my gadget is damaged somehow, so I tried to connect few others brand new Nanos (some of them original Arduino, some clones) - nothing!
Then I tried other Arduino boards: Uno, Mega 2560 and Micro. My computer could see Micro and Mega but not Uno and Nano. A few days before this I've got a new computer. So, I thought that maybe something wrong with my new PC. So I tried to do it on three more different PCs (my coworkers) - same result. The last thing I did I downloaded an older version of Arduino software - same result. I understand that what I am saying sounds like a complete nonsense, but I am out of ideas. Maybe I am missing something. Please, any ideas welcome!
Which operating system are you using?
Windows 10 Pro, version 1803
An update to windows 10 seems to have broken connection for quite a few users.
The quickest known fix was to roll back any hardware related patches from MS and then HIDE them from the update console.
In terms of hardware updates ALWAYS use ones from the manufacturer of your hardware where possible.
NOT the MS ones as quite a few are known to have issues.
Also avoid USB 3.0 ports where possible as they too are known to have random issues (chipset dependant).
Bob.
Thanks, Bob!
I will try...
