proximity sensor (no ultra sonic) for >1.5m?

Hi,

are there other proximity sensors than the ultra sonics for ranges >1.5m?
My Sharp IR for 1.5 works great. But the ultra sonic wave is simply too wide for my purpose (2D radar / room mapping).

There are laser distance sensors which can be used for such a task. What other requirements do you have?

why don't you use long range sharp sensors?

There are no special requirements, beside that the sensor should have wight less than 150g.
The problem with the sharp lang range sensor is the same as with the parallaxx laser sensor. They don't measure more than 1.5 meters.
