Replacement for L200CV adjustable current-limiter / voltage regulator

Hi everybody,

recently I wanted to buy some L200CV which are adjustable voltage-regulators with a current-limit function.
What I like about the L200CV is: connect 3 resistors and
voltage and current-limit is adjusted - done - ready to use

But his component is out of production. Sure at some onlineshops they are still available but I would prefer to use a component that is in production.

Digikey sugested this components

But this is a buck-converter which requieres quite some external components. I highly prefer a 1/10-inch spaced pin-housing like DIP or TO220 over non-1/10-inch-pins.

It has some kind of overcurrent-protection but it seems not a adjustable current-limiting like the L200CV

If you know about a still in production component or breakoutboard
with adjustable current-limiting please post a type-number or a link.

best regards Stefan

I doubt that nowadays you'll still find any linear U/I regulators.

Well if it is a pretty compact DC-DC-stepdown-regulator on a small PCB with all components soldered onto the PCB I am satisfied with this too.

Did you forgot about the large the heatsink. And the >2volt dropout voltage.

These modules have all the protections, are smaller than the L200, and don't get as hot.

@Wawa

I am not looking for a maximum current-protection
I am looking for an adjustable current-limit

This module can do max. 600mA.
But where is the possability to adjust the current-limit to

  • 100 mA?
  • 50 mA ?
  • 20 mA ?
  • 5 mA ?

This means when ever a load with small resistance (that what is would cause a high current at usual voltage levels like 5V)
is connected
the regulator shall regulate the voltage down that the user-adjusted current-limit of 5 mA is not exceeded.

In case of a 100 m loooong thin copper-wire which has a pretty low resistance of maybe 2 Ohms.

This would mean the regulator is able to regulate down the voltage to 0,01 V to not exceed the current limit of 5 mA

I am searching for a voltage-regulator with user-adjustable current-limit

best regards Stefan

Adjustable voltage and current boards are available on all the big sites (ebay etc.)
They all have two trim pots. One for voltage and one for current.
