Sketch won't upload to Uno, programmer is not responding

Hi

I'm getting this error message when I try to upload a sketch to my Uno R3. Any idea what the problem could be?

Problem uploading to board. See https://support.arduino.cc/hc/en-us/sections/360003198300 for suggestions.

Thanks

did you go there as it told you?

Did you have a look at the help provided in the link at the end of the process?

Is your UNO connected via a USB cable - you don't say
Is it a known working power + data USB cable?
Is there any indication that there is power on your UNO board?
Does device manager indicate your UNO is on COM13?
Has your UNO uploaded successfully before?

Hi

I have an Uno R3 that I'm trying to upload sketches to but I get this error every time. Any idea what could be the problem?

Thanks!

I moved your topic to an appropriate forum category @evatech.

In the future, please take some time to pick the forum category that best suits the subject of your topic. There is an "About the _____ category" topic at the top of each category that explains its purpose.

@evatech you now have 2 open discussions asking the same question.

I have merged your cross-posts @evatech.

Cross-posting is against the Arduino forum rules. The reason is that duplicate posts can waste the time of the people trying to help. Someone might spend a lot of time investigating and writing a detailed answer on one topic, without knowing that someone else already did the same in the other topic.

Repeated cross-posting can result in a suspension from the forum.

In the future, please only create one topic for each distinct subject matter. This is basic forum etiquette, as explained in the "How to get the best out of this forum" guide. It contains a lot of other useful information. Please read it.

Thanks. Yes I've gone through all the suggestions, including loopback test (which worked fine).

Thanks Mark.

Yes, the Uno is connected via a fully functioning USB cable (power + data USB cable).

It is naturally on (green 'on' LED is lit, in case there is any doubt).

Device manager indicates the UNO is on COM13.

"Has your UNO uploaded successfully before?" I believe it has - I haven't used it for a couple of years but it was fine when I last used it.

You could try a loopback test to try and establish some level of functionality:

Did you over-write the bootloader on the UNO?

Please provide the details of your project that you were working on when you started experiencing the problem.

Further

  1. Is your Uno an genuine one or a clone?
  2. Did it ever work before?
  3. Anything connected to pins 0 and 1? That can interfere with the upload.
  4. Anything connected to the Uno; try upload with Uno only connected to the PC.

Thanks Mark.

Not as far as I'm aware.

Thanks sterretje

Genuine ("arduino .org / Made In Italy"

Yes.

No

Nothing connected to it. I've tried upload with Uno only connected to the PC.

Thanks

I would try reprogramming the bootloader using another Arduino. This link may help:

Thanks Mark. I've unfortunately tried that to no avail. Getting "Yikes! Invalid device signature". Have checked and double checked the wiring, setup etc to the process, tried using both digital pin and ICSP headers methods. Nothing works

In that case, if it's a surface mount 328P on the UNO, I'd probably chuck it. If it's a DIL package, then it may be worth trying to get hold of another one and slotting it in.

Surface mount unfortunately

Thanks for all the advice though!
