Am I missing something? If you're going to be soldering to make those, why bother with solderless breadboard? I thought people used the stuff to not have to solder....

These are solderless breadboard helpers.
Plug it into your solderless breadboard and you immediately have 10 LEDs ready to connect to your prototyping Arduino.
And yes, you make a few of them ahead of time so they are ready to go.

LED bargraphs exist, as do DIP resistor arrays, so its not difficult to have 8 LEDs with just two packages without having to solder anything.
