I am working on a project which requires a transparent color LCD/OLED display, but all my search has been nothing but 1.5 inch monochrome screens, and I need at least 3.5 inches. I know it's possible technology that is being manufactured, I just don't know where to obtain it. Does anyone know where I could get such a display? I am open to other ideas, the basic concept is for it to display on the outside but completely see through on the inside of a helmet.

I have looked there, And all I found was touchscreen panels and the same 1.5 inch transparent display, not what I am looking for.
Since virtually every electronic part is there, you must have done a weird search. I just searched on display and got countless (too many) hits.
I really doubt either OLED or LCD can be transparent, but I can be shown.
I just tried adding 3.5 and oled, and got lots again.
It may be better to do a google search as that might locate a manufacturer.

Technically any display can be transparent if you remove the back panel. You also run the risk of damaging the screen too, they are fragile so do this at your own discretion.

This will be my last resort, but not my solution. The screen being fragile is not very tactful for my application.
I’m not sure how well this will work with such a tight space but what about maybe a pocket projector? I have one of these (Brookstone Pocket Projector) myself and it definitely is quite small. This one is pricey but I bet there are others very similar to it for a lot cheaper.
Another thing you can look into is, maybe something like a keyboard projector? Here
You would just need to figure out how to change the image it projects, which I am guessing is not going to be easy.
The first LCD I ever saw was transparent. It was a clock and looked like just a thick sheet of glass. I have never seen anything like it since, which suggests it might have been a bad idea.
I looked into it, and the projection route is bulky and/or expensive. it’s also bulky to DIY my own projector with a screen. It seems I left out some crucial details in my original post, so let me clarify what it is for: I am making a costume where I need screens in a helmet displaying an image and for me to be able to see through those eyes. I need any electronics to be as compact as possible, so a transparent display with a mesh behind it is the best option, but I have not found results fitting my application yet.

Thanks, but it’s obviously way to big and expensive. I would like my budget for the screens to stay under 100 dollars per screen and for the screen to stay within the size range of 3.5-6 inches of diagonal screen size.
