USB-B Piece Problem

I have a robot that uses arduino hardware, and it conects to the computer with a USB-B port. But, it has broken and I cannot find anything similar to it, because there is something stick in the USB-B, I will show pictures

Does anyone know the name of this piece?

The first picture is a simple USB-B connector, as used on Arduino Uno and etc.

The second picture looks like a clever USB-Serial adapter, where a small circuit board has been attached to the USB-B connector - the extra pins provide power to a chip on the board that converts the USB connection to a TTL-Level UART connection. This sort of thing was popular for vendors wanting to "upgrade" old products to USB, but I haven't seen this particular shape before, nor have I seen this sort of thing used on an Arduin-like product.

Thank you for the explanation! Do you know where can I find further information about this?

A serial connection from USB to the Arduino robot can be made using any other USB-serial adapter, like this one, which appears to use the same CP2102 Silicon Labs chip as in the lower picture in your post, or an FTDI adapter.

There are many more. Post information about the robot, and forum members can help.

Yes, but, how can I weld this on the robot? Because it has specific number of entrances, and I dont know the use for each one. Is it possible to find this type of information?

Thank you for your answer

No one could possibly guess, unless you post clear, closeup pictures showing the problem.

Otherwise, the answer has to be "carefully".

This is the specific space for the USB-B

Please post a couple of pictures showing the actual part that fell off of the PCB.

Also, post a link to the user manual and/or schematic diagram for that robot. There is not enough information in the above photo to guess what the connections might be.

Thats the problem, the robot doesnt have any schematic available and the piece is completely broken, so the only photo that I have would be that one that I sent first. I found it in the manual, but it doesn't say anything about it.
I have another one of these robots, that has the USB-B port, but it is welded, so I cannot see any more information about it.

The robot product page is HERE and the complete robot schematic and assembly manual is HERE.

You can buy the POUSB12 part HERE. The POUSB12 user manual and pin description is HERE.

Actually, looking better at the piece, I can see a 3V and 5v indication on the two pairs of pins, but I cant see much about the other 4 pins down.

Thank you! But do you know if there is a generic name for this piece or it is a really specific one, because I live in Brazil, and because of customs, it would take 6 months for it to arrive here.

The POUSB12 is a specific product made by the company called PoLabs in Slovenia.

You are lucky that the exact part is still available, but it would be simple to substitute the Pololu CP2102 adapter (or some other) instead.

Ok. Thank you again

Hello again!
Do you know what the SUSPEND port is used for? I cannot find it online.

Thank you

No, sorry.

  1. Check the robot schematic to see if it is connected to anything.
  2. Check the POUSB12 user manual to learn what it does.
