What sort of Woke nonsense is this?

See number 184.

I personally find the word 'Trump' highly offensive.

But I dont expect people playing cards to use another word.

But if they did want to use a different word, would you feel you were being attacked personally?

One reason I could see for a change, unrelated... "master" and "slave" are anthropomorphic terms, which makes them a little "cutesy" in a technical context.

Terms that date back to ancient Greek times ..................

Unlike the SPI bus...

What qualifications are required for those that tell me what should offend me?

If I am not a leftist, can I be offended?

Well rightists often get offended. Some of them are currently running attack campaigns on the public libraries here, for daring to carry books that they disagree with.

I should add, some of the rhetoric is disturbing and hateful.

Edit - as well as being demonstrably false.

Or the issue of the parents\governers who forced the head of a school to resign for showing and discussing in an art class the Statue of David, since its 'pornography'

On a lighter note, if it hasn't been mentioned before, many spies find the name "SPI" offensive.

What I don't understand about wokists is they claim they have a right not to be offended. I totally agree with them; they have the right to be offended or not offended by anything they choose, it's entirely up to them. What they don't have is a right to tell others what to be offended by.

He is saying he is offended by the changes. So the wokists are offending him by pushing that change.

That’s to be respected as much as any other opinion and I don’t understand your rant.

(And he is not alone in thinking this has gone too far)

How can he be personally offended by a change to something that isn't personal to him except his previous experience to it? Did he help come up with the naming convention? I doubt it as he's presented nothing to show his personal connection to it. My point is that it isn't personal, he's making it personal.

Edit: Irritation by being inconvenienced is not the same as being personally offended.

Not being alone in a thought doesn't make it right.

God, before deploying Flood 2.0: "Humanity, you have not learned anything! You still oppress each other thinking not all men are equal. What do you have to say to your defence?"
Humans: "Well, we changed these Master/Slave labels to Controller/Peripheral."

How do you know it’s not personal? By definition it’s personal so not something someone else might feel

That’s the whole point here. Some changes are proposed or made by people who are not offended but think someone could…

Semantically, you're partially correct. Let's compare and contrast though. Police brutality is something you may feel strongly about, and is in no way a direct comparison in severity to our current subject. Unless you've been brutalized by the police or associated with someone who was, or are doing the brutalizing, it's not personal to you. The person being brutalized vs the person brutalizing have two very different opinions on the subject. If I were to say that I want to end police brutality, I have an opinion on the matter but unless one of those previous statements apply, it's not personal.

So yes, semantically you could say that since he's come in contact and used those terms it's personal. But realistically, how does this change effect him or anyone else? They have to change text books going forward? They are asked to teach a different verbiage moving forward? These are things that are inconvenient, they are not sacrifices.

So please confirm that this is a subject of true personal sacrifice and not just inconvenience.

I suggested a way round this back in post # 90.

Just use the same letters but let them stand for something none offensive to the woke brigade. I don't care what they are described as on paper, so long as I am allowed to think in my own head what the letters always stood for. There are many examples of use on master & slave in other components, like the Master Slave D-Type flip flop. Or are you going for them next?

Oh grow up will you, please.

It is ridiculous, why change something that in electronics has never been viewed that way @apf1979?

The wokists are a Slave to what they try to Master.

Why don't wokists get rid of illicit substances and websites first if they so worried?

You might not even have to wait that long. Yesterday I was admitted to hospital, having had a stroke. It looks likely that I have lost the use of my right hand. But to quote Margret Thatcher, "I still have the use of two fingers".
