What's the Difference between EC12 and EC16 Encoders?

Hi

When searching eBay for "encoder", I find 3 models:
EC11,
EC12,
EC16.

EC11 is an encoder that also contains a button, so you can both rotate and press it.
EC12 and EC16 do not contain a button.

So I am curious:
What is the difference bewteen EC12 and EC16?

Thank you

The difference is the length of the shaft.

EC12: 5mm shaft length.
EC16: 15mm shaft length.

The information was on the first seller's site that I looked at.

Hi JohnLincoln

Thank you very much for your answer,
and sorry for the late reply (for some reason I did not receive an email from the system, I will check why)

Hmm, Is that the only difference?

I'm quite shocked you can find only three models when looking for "encoder". Did e-bay lose all its sellers recently or so?

Those 3 models are from eBay..
That's where I went to look..

I also checked taydaelectronics.com,
but quite surprisingly, they have no encoders at all..

Digikey:

Encoders (7409 items)

And you found only 3 models on e-bay, with the shaft length as the only difference?!

Digikey is irrelevant for hobbyists,
since the shipping there is really expensive.

OK, then RS-Components (FREE shipping, no minimum quantity):

1291 products found for "encoder"

Of which 557 in the category "rotary encoders".

Note that as Digikey has lots of double listings (same part, different quantity) and lots of "obsolete" parts are still listed there you can't compare numbers directly.

Another site that's targeting the retail customers (including hobbyists) is Element14, listing 464 encoders.

Thank you, interesting results..
Tho eBay's 3 models makes life much easier, regarding choosing..

Only if it happens to fulfill your requirements...
