I have recently been able to launch arduino uno on Windows 8 and make it work, but having had to reinstalled the software, the programme fails to run. I double click the short-cut and after some time, get the message: 'Launch4j'. I have tried a delete and reload, as well as running the programme as administrator. I have also switched off the internet connection and closed the internet security connection (briefly), as some discussion sites suggested, but to no avail! I think that there must be an answer out there - any help would be appreciated.
Colin.
Since I last reported, I have tried deleting and reloading both Arduino and Java. Now I get the following message:
"Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86)Arduino\java\bin\awt.dll
Click Abort to stop the installation, Retry to try again, or
Ignor to skip this file.
I have since loaded and used Arduino uno on my wife's laptop - no problems. She uses Windows 7. I have retried my system after changing my virus software from Norton to AVG (my wife uses AVG) , still, I can't get Arduino to work. It is a bit of a mystery, and my wife is becoming worried that I might 'persuade' her to let me use her laptop!
Thank you.
In fact, this afternoon Microsoft prompted me to update my Windows. Now when I try to load up the Arduino, I get a different message, which reads: "Error: could not open C:\Program Files(x86)\Arduino\java\lib\i386\jvm.cfg". It seems that I do, as you say, have a java problem.
