through-hole metal PCB terminals (posts) - clips

Hi there!

Anybody come across these sorts of terminals before? Apparently these are common on certain kinds of boards and electronic modules, like RF/microwave boards, some audio boards etc.

Some boards even have quite tiny posts like this kind.

Anyone know if there are special clips that can be used to attach to these posts ---- rather than just alligator clips?

At the moment, I'm thinking that some 'genius' (or idiot - maybe) designed these posts, but forgot to design a decent attachable/detachable connector/clip for them.

Or are we just meant to solder wires to these posts?

There's some what i would call grabber test probes:

And similar with a small hook (you might recognise it as an oscilloscope probe add on):

If you do a search for hirschmann + kleps, you'll probably find plenty of these.
So i would use such pins for testing.

Perhaps the ones with the gable like form might accommodate wires to be wrapped and then soldered through the gable part for extra strength.
According to that site, these are quite small parts.
So now i'm curious as to what specific goal these pins were designed.

MAS3 - thanks a lot for your posting that image of the grabber test probe. Something like that would definitely be nice and workable --- like a spring operated device like this that clamps firmly around the post.

Thanks for letting me know that name "hirschmann + kleps" for searching as well. Greatly appreciated. I think ordering some of these small clips will be very workable.

I purchased a ADC board, and it has a whole bunch of those small posts. Some are even for connecting to power supply --- eg. a post for +9V, one post for GND, another for -9V. And around 4 or 5 more of them. After searching online to see if any specialised connectors existed for these posts, I decided to ask (get help that is) on this forum.

I think you may be right about wire wrapping followed by soldering.

Also, totally with you about what specific goal those pins were designed for. I thought it was strange to see posts on these boards, and little to no details about the reason for doing it this way. Definitely with you on that one.

Thanks again MAS3. Really appreciated.
