XHP Connectors - not the crimping side

I am connecting my arduino to a 5V transformer, which provides USB power and also power via an XHP connector. I have purchased some XHP connectors (see attached) and every google / youtube hit tells me how to crimp the left-hand connector. How do I connect a wire to the right-hand connector? Is this just a normal solder? Or do i need another connector?

Cheers, Ian

You don't, you insert the pins into some sort of board and solder those pins in place.

So, how do I connect 2 set of wires together using these connectors? Or do I cut them off and resolder them to another type of connector?

You can buy or make air wires.

Two conductor:

Three wires:

Lots of variations:

You need to draw out the circuit you are trying to use them in; it's not at all clear what you want.

larry, appreciate your attempt but google refers to male as those with a protruding pin (on the right of that last diagram). Your labels appear to be backwards.

My kit and the most recent picture above have the bottom half of the right-hand connector (the housing with the pins in) but not the top half of the connector (where the wires go in). What is the name of this connector?

see attached

Is a connector really needed? Then buy the wired plug/sockert versions.
Otherwise cut off the connector and connect the wires with a joiner block.
Or cut/solder the wires and cover with heatshrink.
Leo..

You might need crimping pin and ratcheting crimper like the ones included in this kit?

It's very small, so I prefer a ready-made one like @LarryD showed.

  • The M/F labelling was done on the image that I stole.

The mating connector that OP has bought is a circuitboard connector, designed to solder onto a board, not meant for crimping wires on.
Leo..

Good to know, so does anyone know the product name / specification for the connector that allows a wire to be connected rather than a board?

In the end I just soldered some wires to the plug I already have. Was hoping for something more elegant, but it will do (and it connectivity tests OK).

All pictures in #4 show connectors with wires

No specific name. They are usually referred to as wire to board or wire to wire connectors.
